Professional Summary

I started working in the computer industry (in late 1986) with a software development company in British Columbia as a certified micro-computer technician.  As a senior Systems Integration Specialist for Prologic Computer Corporation (now Fincentric Corporation), my focus was on the implementation and support of IBM compatible computers to support Prologic's client-server banking system called Ovation.  I have been a senior team member (and network architect) in many western Canadian credit union banking system conversions.  Some of them are:

Richmond Savings Credit Union
British Columbia, CA
IWA and Community Credit Union
British Columbia, CA
Fraser Valley Credit Union
British Columbia, CA
Cambrian Credit Union
Manitoba, CA
Capital City Savings and Credit Union
Alberta, CA

As a Systems Engineer and Consultant, I have been exposed to many hardware and software combinations in a variety of business applications.  Some recent project highlights (in which I acted as a senior technical lead) include the following:

Employment History

Date Organization
Dec 2001 - Present Acrodex Inc. (was CompCanada Atlas)
Oct 2000 - Present Quack.com/AOL
Apr 2000 - Oct 2000 CompCanada Atlas

In addition to the full-time jobs listed above, I also done private consulting work for small businesses who need a reliable IT resource, but do not have the need for full-time IT staff.  Local Area Network (LAN) design, corporate email servers, Internet Access, and PC installation and repair are just some of the types of work I do.  Since I have a full-time job, this work is typically done after hours and on weekends.

Qualifications

I have extensive network design experience (including performance calculations) in both the local and wide area network arenas, and have taken a keen interest in system and network monitoring (It has been my observation that many businesses implement technological solutions, but lack the mechanisms to monitor them effectively).    See my web page at www.wtcs.org/snmp4tpc for further information.

Certified Systems Engineer             Certified Netware Administrator

I have networking experience with Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.1x, Windows 95 and 98, Windows NT (3.5x, 4.0 and 2000) as well as NetWare 3.x, 4.x, and recently NetWare 5 LANs.  I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and a Novell Certified NetWare Administrator (CNA).

I am quite comfortable in situations that require me to translate "techno-speak" into a language that can be easily understood.  I have strong writing and verbal communication skills, and have excellent skills with Microsoft Word, and Visio

I am currently employed as a Senior Network Consultant for Acrodex, Inc. in Edmonton.  My assignments tend to focus on Windows NT/2000 infrastructure and Network Management.

Personal Information

I live and work in Edmonton, Alberta (that's Canada, folks!).  Where's that?  Well, here's a map!.  Here's a skyline photo if you are interested.  Nice evening sky, huh?

I am 40, and "Married, with Children".  A wonderful (and understanding Computer Widow) wife, two great kids (one of each) two super step-daughters and a cocker spaniel makes up my family.  Having kids is a pretty good way to relive your youth!  Now I can buy a water gun or an RC car or truck for my son and one for me, and I don't have to justify it!  Cool!  Still finding it hard to wrap myself around playing Barbie with my girl though!

I like cars.  I have had a '63 Bel Air, '65 Bel Air, '68 Caprice, '74 Monte Carlo, '81 Mazda 626, '92 Mustang LX 5.0, '93 Sunbird LE, and a '93 Taurus.  Wow!  Never realized how many until I wrote them down.  I like to drive, and  have entered in a few car rallies.  Won a few too!  I once entered a winter rally in BC in my Monte!  How'd I do?  Not so good!  Big American cars don't do so good on windy winter roads ('specially with big, fat tires).  BIG FAT DNF on that one!   Oh well, a new door, fender and exhaust pipe and paint job, and ole' Monte was as good as new!

I like music.  I am a bit eclectic here, but I like pretty much all music except for grunge.  Can't listen to that for too long. I especially like Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and various New Age music.  My wife likes her country!

Other things I like include going to the beach (sun!), watching (Go Oilers Go!) and playing (pick-up) hockey, computers (no, really?!) hot sunny weather and sleeping in on weekends.

There!  Feel like you know me a bit better?  Want to know more?  Call me!
